Watching The Hobbit,
And now she’s barking at Wargs.
They’re foes beyond her.

Margo, here's the slow travel story!

Imani Mosley will tell you (as she smiles benignly and shakes her head somewhat) that I will talk to anyone, anywhere, at any time. It's true and sometimes that leads to the most serendipitous of outcomes. Most recently, on the train on my way back from London on Wednesday night I sat next to a lady and her husband. He recognized me as someone that had been on the same train as them that morning as we journeyed south and made a casual comment. It turned out that they had been to the Barbican Centre to hear their daughter perform - so of course we talked music! It tuned out that the lady is a viola player (insert joke here). She asked if I was free to attend a concert on Friday evening (today) when she and the chamber group she is in are to perform, inter alia, Schoenberg's Verklärte Nacht. As kindly as I could I showed a degree of surprise that a local chamber group could perform a work of that complexity. I asked the name of the group - "Kenneth Sillito and Friends" she told me. My head snapped up immediately. "Ken Sillito, former leader of the English Chamber Orchestra?" - I couldn't keep the amazement from my voice. "Yes," she said "Do you know him?" Indeed I do! When I was a member of the Aldeburgh Festival Singers back in the 1960's-70's the ECO was Britten's house band and I did many concerts with them. They were, and remain, one of the finest orchestras in the country (He was subsequently leader of the world-renowned Academy of Saint Martin in the Fields.). I had also known Ken's predecessor in the leader's chair of the ECO, Manny Hurwitz, who's son, it transpires plays 'cello in Kenneth Sillito and Friends.
So, I have my ticket purchased for tonight's concert and cannot wait to go and say hello to Ken and Michael and, I am sure, relive some old memories. And that, friends, is what you get from talking to anyone, any place, any time

2015 Southern Colorado with Char and Barb and Dave

So, Barbara Landers takes on the role of designated driver, chauffeuring us around in a beautiful, new SUV. But does she respect the vehicle? Nooo! she speeds, aims for potholes, and loves the sound of the warning you're out of your lane strips along the road. Don't look at me, Barb! Eyes on the road!
Great Serpent Mound site.
I climb the lookout without fear,
Then stub my sore toe.
Gina's nav system
Has a very sexy voice.
It's quite distracting.

I tap the snooze link And glance towards the window. The pink sky beckons. |

- I knew it! My poor car.

Regina Tojo
Here we go.....off-roading it again!
Dave Landers
That's OK - I don't have to fix any flat tires that might occur. Barb left two flat tires (tractor & wheelbarrow) when she took off
Regina Tojo
Hey Dave Landers, why does your car make a loud noise when it's in "M"?
Dave LandersIt didn't used to. Are you implying that it is now? I don't see any reason why Barb would be using the manual mode anyway - that's mostly for controlling speed going downhill without breaking. BTW - Ask Barb about the time she took her Mom to the to…
Barbara Landers
Gina, sorry to burst your bubble. Dave did not fall for your baiting techniques. He saw right through you. Told you he was not easy to either rile or fool - he is the Turtle!

2012
Yestermorn I watched
Twelve vibrant balloons; floating
Inverted rain drops.
This morn, a ghost moon
Hovers over the ochre
Western horizon.
It's worth getting
Up early to watch the sun rise
Over the mountain.
2010
Autumn rituals
The dark brown nut gleams
Amid thick, discarded hulls,
And I pick it up.
My thumb polishes
A nut's wooden curves: today's
Walking companion.
2009
Weather has turned cold;
We envy her paisley scarf.
"It covers shirt stains."
